The ocarina has five notes. Only the buttons change between versions: on Switch 2 the three top notes sit on Y, X and A, the same left-top-right layout as the N64’s C buttons.

Warp songs
Sheik teaches all six to adult Link. Each one takes you to the area outside a temple, so play them whenever you need to travel fast.

Warp songs work for child Link too, which is how you reach the Desert Colossus as a child for the Spirit Temple.
How does the Scarecrow’s Song work?
As a child, play any eight notes to Bonooru, the scarecrow at Lake Hylia. Come back as an adult and play the same eight notes to him again. From then on, playing that tune near certain hidden spots summons Pierre, a scarecrow you can hookshot to. Write your notes down: there is no way to look them up in the original.
What changes for the ocarina in the remake?
- Hum to play: sing or hum a learned song into the Switch 2 microphone, or play a real ocarina, and Link plays it.
- Songbook on ZL: the ocarina screen shows the songs you have learned.
- Skip button: you can skip the playback animation after a song.
