FAQ

When does the Ocarina of Time remake come out?
November 5, 2026, worldwide, on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo announced the date in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, 2026.
Can I play the Ocarina of Time remake on the original Switch?
No. Nintendo lists it as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, and there is no Switch 1 version or upgrade pack.
How big is the download?
Nintendo estimates about 27 GB. The figure may change at launch.
Is Link voiced in the remake?
No. Nintendo says the characters Link meets are fully voiced in the expanded cutscenes, but the trailers show Link himself stays silent.
Is the Ocarina of Time remake coming to PC, Xbox or PS5?
No. It is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive published by Nintendo, and no PC, Steam, Xbox or PlayStation version has been announced.
Is the physical version a Game-Key Card?
No. The physical edition has the full game on the cartridge, not a download key. First-print copies come in a textured foil cover.
Who is developing the remake, and does it use Unreal Engine 5?
Nintendo has not named the studio or the engine. Grezzo, which made Ocarina of Time 3D, is the most common guess but is unconfirmed. Digital Foundry says the footage does not look like Unreal Engine 5. Eiji Aonuma is the series producer.
Is the Ocarina of Time remake open world?
No. The trailers show the original's Hyrule, dungeons and story order rebuilt with new graphics, and some loading screens between areas stay. It plays like the original, not like Breath of the Wild.
Is there a demo of the Ocarina of Time remake?
Nintendo has not announced a demo. The free "Ocarina of Time remake demo" shared online is CryZENx's unofficial Unreal Engine 5 fan project for PC. It ended in 2026 and is not made by Nintendo.
Does the remake include Master Quest?
Nintendo has not said. Ocarina of Time 3D included Master Quest, but it has not appeared in any remake trailer or store listing.
Is Majora's Mask getting a remake too?
Nothing has been announced. Nintendo added Majora's Mask music to Nintendo Music in October 2026, but that is not a remake announcement.

When does the Ocarina of Time remake come out?

November 5, 2026, on the same day in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. The remake was first revealed in the Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026. The release date and a 15-minute gameplay demo from series producer Eiji Aonuma followed in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, 2026.

It is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. It will not run on the original Switch.

What is new in the remake?

Nintendo calls it a full remake built for Switch 2. These features are confirmed by Nintendo:

  • New graphics, orchestral music and faster loading.
  • Free camera with the right stick, even in Hyrule Castle Town.
  • A jump button and sprinting (hold A after a roll). Swimming is faster too.
  • Expanded story scenes with full voice acting for the characters Link meets. Link stays silent.
  • Day and night keep running everywhere, including towns.
  • Threads of Time: a tapestry that fills up as you play and shows your story progress and next objective.
  • Hum to play the ocarina: sing a song you have learned into the Switch 2 microphone and Link plays it. Real instruments work too.
  • amiibo support: new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo (2027) unlock retro-style masks, and other Zelda amiibo give items.
  • ZELDA NOTES in the Nintendo Switch App: daily records, a photo-location quiz, a virtual ocarina and trivia.

Some loading screens between areas stay on purpose. Aonuma says it keeps the feel of the original. Our remake vs N64 changes list tracks dozens of smaller changes spotted in the trailers.

What has Nintendo not said yet?

These are the questions players ask most that have no official answer as of October 12, 2026:

  • Whether the number of Heart Pieces and Gold Skulltulas has changed. Our Heart Piece checklist and Gold Skulltula checklist use the original game for now.
  • Whether Master Quest, a Hero Mode or a boss rush is included.
  • Whether the 3DS version’s Sheikah Stone hint videos return. The official hint tools are Threads of Time and Navi.
  • Resolution and frame rate. Digital Foundry’s analysis of the trailers suggests 1080p at 60fps in game. Nintendo has not confirmed this.
  • Who developed it and who voices the characters.
  • Whether there are new items, dungeons or post-game content. Fans point to empty slots in the item screen and the tapestry, but nothing is confirmed.
